Israelite Burial Found in Siberia

'Conan the Barbarian, created by Robert E. Howard in the 1930s, was not a 'one off,' it seems. Lately a man's body has been found in perfect condition, preserved in the permafrost of Siberia, and he is thought to be racially of the Conan type.

'It may be remembered that after the war L. Sprague de Camp and Lin Carter developed the character of Howard's Conan, setting him in that older world of 10,000 B.C., thus giving themselves room to create a fictitious chrat of the world. Some brief details of Conan's new-found kinsman are related by Adrian Berry, Science Correspondent of The Daily Telegraph, London, 23rd August, 1995. He writes:

'The 3,000- year-old man has long RED HAIR in braids and wore embroidered trousers, a fur coat and high boots. He has a large elk tattooed on his back and chest. His horse was interred next to him in a burial mound.'

'The Mausoleum Institute in Moscow has the task of giving the body 'special treatment to prevent damage being caused by exposure to heat and light.'

'It is interesting to read that the man was like Conan, a 'SCYTHIAN or CIMMERIAN, the mysterious nomadic race who for most of the first millenium B.C. LIVED IN THE PLAINS NORTH OF THE BLACK SEA.'

'This knowledge of his origin rests on the fact that he was found in the Ukok plateau, where 'scientists have also found the preserved body of a tattooed woman.' Her body is also in Moscow for treatment and she 'is believed to be a CIMMERIAN PRIESTESS or PRINCESS. She was found with the bodies of a man and another woman, both wearing armour.'
